I’m by no means elderly, but I know that someday I will be. What I am dealing with is the fact that my parents ARE now elderly, and I need to help them find new ways of going about their day that offers them the most mobility and support. With aging comes a host of physical changes that can make something as mundane as driving a car less of a freedom and more of a chore. After 55, our bodies generally have more issues with lower-body mobility, such as knee and leg pain, as well as pain or stiffness in the back, neck, arms or shoulders. What fun, right? Luckily, I found that there are vehicles that are perfect for seniors because they have all the amenities that can help lessen or eliminate these discomforts. One of my favorites is the 2015 Hyundai Sonata, which comes standard with all the things that keep driving a joy!
Lets take a look, shall we? Here are the features that make the 2015 Hyundai Sonata perfect for that older individual in your life:
Heated, Power-Adjustable Seats With Lumbar Support
Back pain and stiffness is a big one. Even if its caused by some other illness or a recent surgery, a warm seat with lumbar support is just the ticket! Heck, I’m not even 40 and I LOVE my heated seats.
Low Door Threshold
This is more important than you may think. Because of the knee and leg pain that arthritis can bring, having to make too much of an effort to step over a vehicle’s threshold can make driving unpleasant. The low threshold on the 2015 Sonata makes getting into, and out of, this car a breeze.
Thick Tilt-and-Telescoping Steering Wheel
Especially important when fine motor skills aren’t what they used to be. The telescoping and tilt feature helps to set the wheel so that there’s ample room to get in and out, and the larger wheel helps for easier gripping and turning.
Keyless Entry and Ignition
This is perfect for stiff or arthritic hands. No one enjoys fumbling with keys even on a good day, for someone with stiff or arthritic fingers it can be a nightmare!
Larger Dashboard Controls
Again, perfect for stiff or arthritic hands or anyone who has a loss of fine motor skills.
Rear Backup Camera
When someone has limited mobility, back pain or stiffness, it can be difficult for them to turn fully and look behind the when backing up.
Larger Audio and Climate Controls
Besides being easier to grip, the controls in the 2015 Hyundai Sonata are easier to see, as well!
The Sonata also features a high-contrast instrument panel, as well as large, heated, wide-angle, auto-dimming and low-glare power mirrors. The list goes on, truly, but I think this is plenty for now to convince you the Sonata is one of the best cars for elderly drivers. If you have someone in your life that would benefit from all these amenities to make driving easier, stop by Glenn Hyundai today and check out the 2015 Hyundai Sonata.
